There’s something rather wonderful about late summer in Middlebury. The days may be getting a little shorter, but our community calendar certainly isn’t slowing down.

This past weekend, the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op celebrated an incredible 50 years, bringing people together on the Town Green for a day that felt like a true celebration of community. If you missed it—or simply want to linger a little longer—the Co-op’s historical display is still available to view through mid-September, offering a fascinating look back at five decades of local food, people and connection.

And now we roll straight into another few weeks packed with reasons to get out and about.

🎬 Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival brings filmmakers, films and visitors downtown this week.

🌽 Middlebury Summer Markets and our local farm stands are overflowing with the freshest produce, flowers and locally made and artisanal goods. This really is their moment—go and enjoy them!

🎧 Thursday, August 27: Silent Disco in the middle of town. Headphones on, inhibitions off.

📚 Saturday, August 29: The doors officially open at the newly renovated Ilsley Public Library—a huge moment for Middlebury and one we’ve all been eagerly awaiting.

✨ Friday, September 4: First Friday returns with a wonderfully eclectic mix of book talks, live music, caramel apples, Billy Wylder, DJ Serena Kim, a closet sale and plenty more happening around downtown. Our local farm stands will be open all day too, so make an afternoon and evening of it. Check out details on the acorn website.

🚴 The Kelly Brush Ride rolls into Middlebury the second weekend of September, followed by Tour de Farms on Saturday September 19—two more great celebrations of our landscape, farms, food and community.

Late summer is gearing up rather than winding down, and there are so many ways to join in.

For even more ideas, keep an eye on the Addison Independent, Addison Arts, Experience Middlebury and 92.1 FM, and take a look at Veerio, a new local app gathering events from across Addison County into one exciting community calendar.

Shop, eat, watch, listen, dance, cycle, visit a farm, borrow a book—or simply show up. That’s what makes a community. ❤️
