Celebrating Romance in Middlebury

Friday, February 5, 2021

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so we thought we’d share with you all of the ways Middlebury can help you make the day special for your loved ones!

First, the tried-and-true traditional gifts for your sweetheart: flowers and chocolate!

Middlebury is fortunate enough to be home to two wonderful flower shops: Cole’s Flowers and Middlebury Floral and Gifts. Keep in mind that flowers, particularly roses, are in great demand this month, and place your order as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. As you can gather from its name, Middlebury Floral and Gifts also offers a delightful array of gifts beyond flowers, with which you can further spoil your sweetheart this season. Both shops offer delivery, so share the love with everyone you love!

Satisfying a sweetheart with a sweet tooth is easy as pie in Middlebury! Stop in one of the many local shops that offer romance in the form of extra calories, including Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op, Middlebury Sweets, Sweet Cecily, Otter Creek Bakery, and Vermont’s Own Gifts & Goods.

And of course, the above-mentioned locations offer other gifts beyond flowers and chocolate… there’s really no reason to leave town to find the perfect gift for your special guy or gal, whether that’s a card, jewelry, a stuffed animal, a good book, sporting equipment, a fancy new bow tie, artwork, some pampering at a spa… whew! We have so much great going on in this town!

So now you have a gift picked out… up next, dinner! Whether you want to get dressed up for a romantic candlelight meal or pack a picnic lunch to share at a favorite spot, Middlebury once again has you covered. Dine-in or take-out, you have lots of options.

For a more upscale experience, reserve a table for two at Fire & Ice Restaurant, Jessica’s Restaurant at the Swift House Inn, Morgan’s Tavern at the Middlebury Inn, Waybury Inn or Two Brothers Tavern.

For fireside dining, consider American Flatbread. For a cozy takeout dinner at home, try The Arcadian for Italian, Sabai Sabai for Thai, Rice for Chinese, Taste of India for Indian, Mad Taco for, well, tacos, or Rosie’s Restaurant or Mister Up’s for homestyle American fare and comfort food.

If an on-the-go option is more your speed, try 7 South Sandwich Company, Costello’s, Grapevine Grille (where you can grab a bottle of wine, too!), or Shafer’s Market and Deli. Need more options? We’ve got ‘em! Check out our full list of Middlebury Best Eats.

OK, so what’s next? Ah yes, romantic locations. Everyone’s definition of “romantic” is different, so perhaps the fireside dining experience is just what you’re looking for and we’ve already covered that for you. But if you’re a more active, outdoorsy sort, you might want to consider a trip to the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail, where you can enjoy the great outdoors and great poetry at the same time. Or perhaps you’d like to go “all out” this year and book an evening at a romantic Vermont country inn? We can recommend the Waybury Inn, Inn on the Green, the Middlebury Inn, or the Swift House Inn.

No matter how you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, you really don’t need to leave town to do it. We hope your plans involve supporting one or more of our excellent local businesses this year! Happy Valentine’s Day from Middlebury to you – we love you all!
