MIDD GROUND

When Kathryn and Kelly of the BMP approached Middlebury Underground about partnering on a Midd Ground Newsletter, we were thrilled. We love the BMP, and can’t imagine a better partner.  My wife Lisa and I started MUD about 11 years ago, after we hosted our first “MUD Talk” at the Town Hall Theater.  It was about sharks, and it was fun. Our next event was the very first Foodaroo – a celebration of Vermont food, drink, music, and street performers!  We’re proud it has grown into one of the summer’s premiere events. This August 3rd is Foodaroo Ten.0

For those who don’t know Middlebury Underground (MUD), we’re a 501(c)3 non profit arts and event production company seeking to bring diverse cross sections of our community together around shared artistic experiences.

Another way to say it –  we build creative events and parties that anyone can get behind – and EVERYONE is welcome.  It is not our job. Other than small grants and donations that (usually) cover our costs, everything MUD makes, goes back into the community.  To local companies and organizations, or back into events – which we try to keep either free, or as low cost as possible.

People often ask why we do this, and the answer is simple – we love our town and our community, and see so much potential here.  Especially now, as the rest of the world descends into chaos, we’ve decided to focus our energies locally –to help nurture Middlebury’s artistic soul and help grow its future towards a vibrant, dynamic oasis, steeped in creativity, where everyone is welcome.
