We’re looking ahead to late October, and it’s going to be one of those weekends where Middlebury feels full, festive, and buzzing with energy. With the inauguration of President Baucom, we’ll be welcoming not only the college community but also families, alumni, and visitors into town — and that means our shops, restaurants, and sidewalks will be lively from morning till night.

The celebration stretches across the whole weekend:

  • Friday, Oct. 31 kicks things off with Halloween at College Park (5–7 p.m., complete with Afropop beats!) and later at the Town Hall Theater we will be partying with Revival at Rothrock Mainstage (doors 6:30, show 7–9:30) — plus a Halloween costume contest to keep things fun!
  • Saturday, Nov. 1 brings so much choice, from a Meet & Greet with President Baucom (10 a.m.–noon, Johnson Memorial); a Night with the Arts at the Mahaney Arts Center (8–10 p.m.) PLUS the wonderful Maiden Vermont Chorus at the Town Hall Theater (7 p.m.).
  • Sunday, Nov. 2 is the main event — the Inauguration Ceremony at Virtue Field House (10:30 a.m.), followed by an afternoon encore at the Town Hall Theater from Maiden Vermont Chorus (2 p.m.).

And while you’re here, don’t forget to make the most of Middlebury downtown! Grab a latte and cardamom bun at Little Seed, pop into Otter Creek Used Books or Vermont Book Shop for a new read, wander the galleries at Edgewater and Sparrow Art Supply, and be sure to set aside time for dinner — whether that’s tacos at Crooked Ladle, pizza at American Flatbread, a cozy meal at Two Brothers Tavern, or something a little more elegant at the Swift House Inn or Fire & Ice.

It all adds up to a weekend where Middlebury will be bustling — with music and arts, with visitors exploring downtown, and with plenty of chances to share the spirit of our community. We love weekends like these because they remind us how connected the college and the town truly are, and how much fun it is when everyone
