If you like a good party, this is the place for you. Experience Middlebury brings four exciting events to our community each year.
The second weekend in March, the Vermont Chili Fest draws crowds of over 6,000 people to the closed-off streets in historic downtown Middlebury. Live music and street performers create a cheery, energetic atmosphere, but the star of this show is the chili. Over 50 restaurants and organizations line the streets, offering festival-goers samples of piping hot chili in hopes of winning the coveted “Best Chili” award. It’s the perfect way to spend a chilly — or is it chili? — day in Vermont!
In June, the falls of Otter Creek welcome nearly 2,000 people to Midd Summer Fest, a celebration of some of the finest products Vermont has to offer. Middlebury residents look forward to this delightful event every year, as they can mingle with their neighbors while sampling Vermont beers, wines, ciders, spirits, cheeses and more in a jovial and beautiful setting. The three-hour festival also features live music and food vendors.
The Sunday before Halloween, the town green hosts Spooktacular, a Halloween bash for local children and their families. The event kicks off with with games, prizes, music, and face painting, and culminates with the popular trick-or-treat parade down Main Street, where merchants hand out candy and other treats.
Finally, during the month of December, a Very Merry Middlebury brings holiday magic to town with visits from Santa, old fashioned horse-and-wagon rides, free gift wrap, and a character breakfast, to name just a sampling of the month-long festivities. Local shops offer extended holiday shopping hours during the month, and a warm glow seems to pervade the town, making the holidays an extra special time to be in Middlebury.
