Local food takes on a whole new meaning in Middlebury. Here, we know our food… and our farmers.
Vermont is recognized as having the most farmers markets and CSAs per capita in the country, and some of the best Vermont products come right from the Middlebury area, including nationally-known fine meats, cheeses, and craft beer.
The strong emphasis on local foods in Middlebury starts at an early age. Here, daycare centers visit the Wednesday Farmers’ Market in search of fresh fruits and vegetables for their morning snack. The annual Tour de Farms bicycling event has participants traveling the Addison County area from farm to farm, sampling delicious, locally-grown foods. And, many of the restaurants around Middlebury are part of the Vermont Fresh Network, including the local pub.
And speaking of pubs… you won’t go thirsty here. Some of the finest craft beers in Vermont originate right here in Middlebury, along with popular hard cider and acclaimed rye whisky. The Middlebury area is home to the American Brewers Guild, a school dedicated to teaching the art of craft brewing to future brewers from around the country.
